The boa story

One of the most fashionable and gallant elements of the female wardrobe was always considered boa. This detail had different names in different countries but the universal name was borrowed from French that was and is the main centre of fashion.

In fact boa is the long narrow scarf made of the furs and plume. It entered the fashion in the beginning of 19th century and became famous at once. The word "boa" comes from the Latin "Boa" that meant "the snake who strangles". But this word was borrowed from French that had the same meaning.

Boa was considered to be the women's accessory but it was not recommended for wearing it by the young girls. Boa was famous in Europe till 1914 until the long scarves of the light fabrics and furs appeared.

Boas of the bright colours were also considered to be worn by prostitutes. That is why the fashionable magazines warned women to wear these clothes carefully.

Today speaking about 70s of the past century people can't forget to mention the beautiful boas worn by women. This was the traditional element of the women's clothing. Sometimes it was decorated with the silver or golden laces.

The manner of its wearing was quite simple. Women simply put it on their shoulders or were holding it by their elbows in such way that the scar was hanging on their back. Unfortunately nowadays this element of clothing is not so popular.
